Rebecca Killjoy - A lonely homicide detective wrapped up in a string of vicious slayings - all against women, all involving ritualistic mutilation, all unsolved... She must use everything she has, even a gift she is unaware of, if she is going to catch the killer before he finishes his masterwork.

Kenny - Killjoy's partner, and former lover. Their affair was legendary, with peaks of incredible passion offset by intense arguements and clashing of two strong wills. She insults him by calling him only by his first name, but he loves her still. Kenny's connection to these cases are more than just professional. He has known personally each and everyone of the killer's victims. Several were casual acquaintances, at least one was a one-night stand, and the rest he had come into contact with in various ways, but all the women knew him. Though he is not a suspect, he has a personal stake in finding this monster and clearing his own name.

Madame Fields - A gypsy, a mystic, a seer. An old woman with the gift of longsight. She has given Rebecca information in the past, and Rebecca will seek her answers once again.
Dr. Deanna Rafferty - The chief of forensic pathologist, and head coroner, Deanna is also one of Killjoy's few friends. She's bubbly and vivacious and no one would ever guess she spends her days and nights elbow deep in corpses. Her information about these killings may prove invaluable as there is nothing she loves more than a good mystery to solve.

Sargent Childs - The Sarge, in charge of the department and directly above both Killjoy and Kenny.
